Shepherd’s Retreat provides a luxury glamping experience on a working Shropshire farm in Leighton, just a few miles from the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge.
Sitting under the careful watchful eye of The Wrekin, Shropshire’s most iconic hill, Shepherd’s Retreat is one of three self catering Shepherd’s Huts that provide a wonderful alternative to a cottage holiday. Shepherd’s Retreat is suitably named too, being the most secluded of the three huts. Benefiting from the tranquil sounds of a rushing stream who’s source begins high up on The Wrekin, it’s the perfect getaway for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life to a rural and romantic retreat.
For anyone who thinks glamping is for summer escapes only, think again! The huts come complete with their own small log burner, combined with pine paneling and a thick insulated exterior shell – the huts remain warm and cosy even in winter. We are also able to provide free Wi-Fi during your stay.
Shepherd’s retreat comes complete with a comfortable double bed with views to the neighbouring woodland from the window. There is a small sitting, with wall mounted flat screen TV, plus dining area lead to the newly fitted kitchen complete with microwave combination oven, a slow cooker and a fridge/freezer.
The toilet and shower room are located a short, 50 yard illuminated pathway up to the old pig sty, now converted to a large shower room, complete with shower, toilet and wash basin. This shower room is only shared with one other hut, so there’s no need to worry about queuing with toilet roll under arm…this is glamping, not camping.
Location
At the end of its own single track road, Morells Wood Farm is situated just over a mile from the little village of Leighton. The Kynnersley Arms, on the road through Leighton, serves bar and evening meals and has been recently refurbished. In the opposite direction from the farm and up the hill past the Wrekin, the village of Little Wenlock serves restaurant quality food at The Hunstman Inn.
The Wrekin, from which it is said 17 counties can be seen from its summit, can be reached on foot via a permissive and scenic path right from your doorstep.
Ironbridge, with it’s visitor attractions, pubs, cafes and restaurants is about 4 miles from Leighton and thus within easy reach.
