Cranberry Cottage sits in glorious Shropshire countryside that’s somewhat reminiscent of the hills of Wales. It’ll come as no surprise then that it’s location in the quaint hamlet of Shelve is just a few miles from the Welsh border.
The cottage sleeps a couple in total comfort with all the luxuries you would expect of a modern holiday cottage. However, it’s real jewel in the crown is the setting. Views from your sofa allow you to gaze longingly over to the nearby Stiperstones ridge and from your sun trap patio the views extend through Hope Valley with hillside after hillside leading the eye. This is English countryside at it’s best…if only just ‘English’ countryside!
This former cow byre has been converted to an excellent standard yet has managed to retain it’s original charm including exposed timber beams throughout. The open plan lounge includes a plush sofa with matching armchair, and a flatscreen TV complete with satellite TV. A log burning stove with exterior flue provides extra warmth alongside the electric central heating, allowing you to relax in comfort and enjoy the views. The sofa can also be converted to provide an additional double bed and thus allow an extra emergency bed (should someone snore too loudly!).
The kitchen and dining area is complete with everything you’d need during your stay, including microwave, double oven and an all important dishwasher. More time walking – less time washing!
The bedroom with double bed contains additional under storage in addition to wardrobe storage. As with the lounge, views from the bedroom will mean a tempting breakfast in bed on more than one occasion.
The bathroom features sink, WC and shower with spotlight lighting and natural skylight.
Outside
The patio, along with those stunning views, includes a table with 4 chairs. A BBQ can also be provided to dine Al-fresco – so don’t forget to bring your own charcoal ! All guests at Cranberry Cottage along with the neigbouring ‘Stiperstones View’ holiday studio are welcome to explore the 6 acres of meadow that leads from the main farmhouse.
The Local Area
The Stiperstones, a 536m high ridge with shattered quartzite rock formations, can be reached on foot direct from the cottage, or you can cheat a little with a short drive to it’s base with ample parking. From the top it is often possible to see the hills of Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons and to the north, the Cheshire plains and Berwyn Mountains. Other hills within easy reach by car include Corndon Hill, Pontesbury Hill and the ever popular Long Mynd. There’s also a variety of woodland and valley walks nearby too for more leisurely strolls.
A local pub 2.5 miles away serves great value food and there’s a small shop located there too for provisions. For larger shops, Pontesbury & Minsterley are a 10-15 minute drive and historic Shrewsbury with it’s market, and multitude of shops and restaurants just a 30 minute drive away.
