The Cornhouse is a 2 bedroom holiday cottage situated in the heart of a working farm and commands far reaching views to The Stretton Hills and to the nearby Wrekin Hill. A truely rural escape yet within easy reach of the ever popular World Heritage Site of Ironbridge and ideally located for exploring Shropshire’s beautiful countryside and attractions.
On entering The Cornhouse, you’re immediately struck by the aged and ornate nature of the original oak timber of the old cornhouse that frame your view of the lounge. The kitchen too, benefitting from this ever rustic reminder of the cottages’ former life.
Derek the owner had lit the stove for our arrival, and the warmth soon filled the room to a delightfully toasty level. I had other cottages to photograph, but admittedly was a little tempted to hang around longer than needed in the comfort of this lovely lounge.
The spacious lounge features 2 armchairs and a double seated sofa, set around the feature inglenook fireplace.
A flat screen TV is revealed from a closeable cabinet, although the view from the adjacent window is often as entertaining, overlooking the neighbours. Not the nosey kind of course…these neighbours are more interested in the hay provided at meal times. We are also able to provide free Wi-Fi during your stay.
Upstairs, a double bedroom overlooks the rooftops where breakfast in bed here is served with a delicious view as you watch the whispers of cloud swirl The Wrekin’s summit.
A twin bedroom provides plenty of room for two more guests and the shower room with heated towel rail complete upstairs.
Location
Morrells Wood Farm sits at the end of a single track road, just over a mile from the little village of Leighton. The Kynnersley Arms, on the main road through the village, serves bar and evening meals. In the opposite direction from the farm and up the hill past the Wrekin, the village of Little Wenlock serves superb food too at The Hunstman Inn.
The Wrekin, from who’s summit the distant mountains of Snowdonia can be seen, is reached on foot via a permissive and scenic path right from your doorstep.
Ironbridge, with it’s visitor attractions, pubs, cafes and restaurants is about 4 miles from Leighton and thus within easy reach. The Shropshire Hills Area Of Outstanding Beauty begins here, and stretches south and west, and is a walker’s paradise providing hill walks throughout the seasons for all levels of ability.
