The Cottage
Priory Cottage is an attractive south facing 16th century stable wing in a picturesque location near the Priory ruins. It is grade 2 listed and provides characterful and comfortable accommodation for three or four people. The cottage looks out over an old fashioned walled garden with lawns, flower beds and a mulberry tree towards the church. Situated in the village conservation area it is a short walk to the village centre, or a few yards down the lane to open countryside and a network of paths leading to Wenlock Edge or the Ironbridge Gorge. There is parking for two cars within the walled garden.
There is garden furniture and a variety of places to sit or relax in the garden. In colder weather Priory Cottage provides cosy accommodation with the log burning stove in the sitting room. There is a free supply of logs or coal and we include all electricity, heating, bed linen and towels in the price. Our visitors’ book is a record over many years of people who have delighted in Priory Cottage and who return year after year to enjoy and explore this wonderful part of Shropshire.
Introduction to the area
Much Wenlock is a lovely historic town. It is an ideal centre to explore the Shropshire Hills and the Ironbridge gorge. We have welcomed visitors for over 25 years and many keep coming back. It is a landcape which seems to provide refreshment and delight and there always seems to be more to discover.
The accommodation is situated very close to the English Heritage property of the Priory ruins. The Shropshire Way runs past the cottage and footpaths lead you to Wenlock Edge or the Ironbridge gorge. Turn right from the walled garden and the Bull Ring leads you in minutes to the church, medieval guildhall, museum and the High St with independent shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants. Just across a field you will come to the Leisure centre and the Edge Arts centre.
Wenlock Edge provides views towards Wales, woods and wildflowers. A short drive will enable you to explore a wonderful variety of scenery and market towns and the World Heritage site of Ironbridge. There is also an hourly bus service to the historic towns of Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth.
We also provide a collection maps and guide books.
