This charming and luxuriously furnished 18th century grade II listed holiday cottage is located just a few miles from both Ironbridge and Much Wenlock. Sleeping up to 5 people, it sits in a prominent position on the on the lowers slopes of Tick Wood, commanding wonderful views towards Wrekin Hill.
The property itself, formerly part of the main house and now a semi-detached cottage is approached through delightful terraced gardens. The path weaves it way through well kept shrubs and borders and leads further onto two patio areas. The garden continues to the rear south facing patio where the main entrance to the cottage is gained through French doors.
Basking in natural daylight, the modern kitchen will be a welcome sight to anyone who enjoys to cook whilst on holiday. Owners Rachel & Mike have provided thoughtful little touches throughout including a welcome pack for all guests including freshly baked bread, jam, butter and locally produced eggs. Tea and coffee are also provided for any weary traveler. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes electric oven and hob, washing machine, dishwasher and a dining area for up to 6 people complete with countryside views. Original oak timber beams generate a rustic theme throughout the cottage which is complimented by modern decor with the occasional antique twist.
The lounge, with travertine floor and Turkish rug comes complete with a comfortable leather sofa. A log burning stove is the focal point of the room and perfect for cosy evenings in during the cooler months. A glass door leads to a front patio although guests may prefer to grab a good book and utilise the reading chair cleverly positioned on the inside of this doorway as it offers a fantastic uninterupted view across to Shropshire’s most famous hill, The Wrekin.
The downstairs bathroom comes complete with a modern shower, sink and WC…but the star of the show is the sumptuous roll top bath where many an hour will be spent unwinding.
The cottage is decorated with a eclectic mix of ornaments and furnishings brought home from the owners travels across the world and shown to great effect most noticeably in the bedrooms, both of which are located up a short flight of stairs.
The large family bedroom has a double bed with views of the surrounding countryside and a single bed set to the other side of the room allowing just a touch of extra privacy. There’s a handy stone effect sink within the room too. The second double bedroom is smaller, but no less thoughtfully furnished and commands views across the fields to Tick Wood from the dual aspect windows.
The cottage is set back from the road, the A4169, which although can get busy at peak times, the double glazing throughout the property keeps any road noise to a minimum during these times.
Outside there’s a delightful patio area with a variety of potted plants, protected by stone walls that were built from rocks sourced from within the grounds of the cottages. The upper grassed area of the garden, although not suitable for children to play due to the slope, provides fantastic views across fields where often cows are grazing. The lower part of the side garden features a further dining area and a barbeque like no other. The foundations of which were a former animal shelter with the chimney constructed in keeping with the occasional quirky but charming nature of Folly Cottage.

“Lovely cottage, very homely and great places to visit nearby. Mike and Rachel very welcoming and there is everything you need for a fabulous self catering holiday .”
“We had a lovely time at Folly Cottage. We have stayed in lots of holiday cottages over the years in various parts of the county and have to say that Folly Cottage is at the top of our list! It was lovely and clean, really cosy and the owners had left us lots of little extras. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were very helpful and welcoming and we didn’t want to leave when our week was up. Yourselves at Simply Shropshire were very helpful and it was most appreciated that we were able to swap our week. This was dealt with in a very efficient manor – thank you. We would definitely like to return to Shropshire in the future – hopefully to Folly Cottage as it was so lovely and we will be recommending it to family and friends and also the services of Simply Shropshire.”
